We specialise in trauma, including work with military veterans, as well as supporting expats and professionals navigating life transitions, stress, and emotional overwhelm.

Psychotherapy with care, structure, and professional integrity
Pathfinder Therapy is a psychotherapy clinic offering calm, trauma-informed support through a team of carefully selected practitioners. We provide a steady, confidential space for people who are seeking clarity, relief, and meaningful change.
Who we work with
Pathfinder Therapy works with adults navigating a wide range of experiences, including anxiety, low mood, trauma, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and a sense of feeling overwhelmed or stuck.
Many clients come to the clinic while managing complex lives professionally, relationally, or culturally. Some are living abroad or moving between countries and are seeking continuity of psychological support.
Our therapists regularly work with:
• internationally mobile professionals
• expatriates and global workers
• veterans and individuals from high-responsibility roles
• people navigating major life transitions
• individuals seeking deeper self-understanding
You do not need to fit a particular category to be welcome here.
Online Therapy
Pathfinder Therapy offers psychotherapy online for clients living across the UK, Portugal, and internationally.
Online therapy is not a lesser alternative to in-person work. When conducted thoughtfully, it provides the same depth, structure, and relational focus within a secure and confidential setting.
Sessions take place via secure video and follow the same 50-minute format as face-to-face therapy.
For internationally mobile clients, online therapy provides continuity during relocation, travel, or periods of change.
The work continues wherever you are.
Individual Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy offers a confidential and supportive space where you can explore thoughts, emotions, and experiences at a pace that feels manageable.
The work focuses on understanding patterns that may contribute to distress while gradually developing greater emotional awareness, stability, and choice in how you respond to life’s challenges.
Therapy is collaborative and responsive, shaped around your needs and capacity.
The aim is not to rush change, but to support resilience, self-understanding, and a steadier sense of direction.
Couples Psychotherapy
Couples psychotherapy provides a structured space where partners can explore difficulties within their relationship with the support of a trained therapist.
This may include challenges such as conflict, disconnection, communication difficulties, or repeated patterns that feel hard to shift.
Sessions support both partners in feeling heard and understood while gently exploring how relational dynamics have developed over time.
The aim is to support clearer communication, emotional understanding, and a more grounded sense of connection.
About Pathfinder Therapy
Pathfinder Therapy was established to offer psychotherapy that is both clinically grounded and deeply human.
The clinic operates as an international collective of therapists rather than a sole practitioner practice. This structure allows us to offer continuity of care, professional consultation, and a stable therapeutic framework that supports both clients and clinicians.
Our therapists work from different locations while sharing a common commitment to ethical practice, professional accountability, and ongoing clinical supervision.
Many of our clients live internationally or lead globally mobile lives. We therefore offer therapy both in person at selected clinic locations and online across different countries and time zones.
All work within Pathfinder Therapy is rooted in:
• ethical psychotherapy practice
• recognised professional standards
• regular clinical supervision
• careful client-therapist matching
• respect for each person’s lived experience
From the first point of contact, we prioritise clarity, psychological safety, and a thoughtful pace of work.
Meet the Team
Pathfinder Therapy is an international psychotherapy clinic made up of carefully selected practitioners.
Our therapists are fully qualified clinicians or advanced practitioners working within recognised professional and ethical frameworks. All engage in regular clinical supervision to support safe and reflective practice.
Practitioners may work from different countries or clinic locations, but all operate within the shared professional structure of Pathfinder Therapy.
We take care in how therapists join the clinic and how clients are introduced to a practitioner. Thoughtful matching helps therapy feel steady, contained, and appropriate to the concerns you bring.
You are always welcome to ask questions about who you might work with and how these decisions are made.
Free Initial Consultation
If you are considering therapy and would like to explore whether Pathfinder Therapy feels like the right support, we offer a free initial consultation.
This is a brief, confidential conversation where you can discuss what led you to reach out, ask any questions, and gain a clearer understanding of how therapy at the clinic works. There is no expectation to commit and no requirement to have everything figured out.
You are welcome to get in touch to arrange a time to talk and to decide, at your own pace, whether this feels like a helpful next step.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
A first therapy session at Pathfinder Therapy is intended to be a calm and supportive introduction to the therapeutic process. The focus is on helping clients feel settled, informed, and comfortable rather than on achieving specific outcomes.
The session provides space to discuss what has brought the client to therapy, ask questions, and gain a clearer understanding of how therapy at the clinic works. Practical matters such as confidentiality, boundaries, and session structure are also explained so expectations feel clear and contained.
There is no requirement to share more than feels manageable in the first session. The pace of the work is guided by the client’s needs and capacity, with care taken to establish a sense of safety and trust from the outset.
-
Yes. Pathfinder Therapy offers online therapy sessions for clients who prefer or require remote support.
Online therapy provides a confidential and professionally managed therapeutic space, allowing clients to access therapy from their own environment. Sessions are conducted securely and with the same professional standards, boundaries, and care as in-person therapy.
This option can be particularly helpful for clients living internationally, managing demanding schedules, or seeking continuity of therapy during periods of travel or change.
-
Pathfinder Therapy does not bill insurance companies directly.
Where appropriate, we can provide documentation to support clients who wish to submit claims to their insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Coverage varies by insurer, so we recommend checking with your provider to confirm whether therapy with an out-of-network practitioner is included in your policy.
If you have questions about documentation or practicalities, we are happy to discuss this with you.
-
We understand that circumstances can change and that appointments may occasionally need to be rescheduled.
Pathfinder Therapy asks for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or changes to appointments. Where less notice is given, a cancellation fee may apply.
This policy helps maintain a reliable, contained therapeutic framework for both clients and practitioners and supports continuity in therapeutic work.

When choosing a psychotherapy clinic in Lisbon, expats may wish to consider several practical and therapeutic factors.
Language is often important, as working in a first language can support emotional clarity and safety. A clinic that understands the psychological impact of living abroad — including adjustment, isolation, identity changes, and distance from familiar support systems — can also be helpful.
Many expats benefit from clinics that offer both in-person and online therapy, allowing continuity of care during travel or relocation. Professional standards matter as well, including appropriate qualifications, ethical frameworks, and regular clinical supervision.
Finally, a supportive clinic will offer a clear, low-pressure first point of contact, allowing expats to ask questions and explore therapy without obligation before deciding whether to proceed.
-
English-speaking psychotherapy in Lisbon is available through private psychotherapy clinics, independent therapists, and online therapy providers offering sessions in English. Many expats choose clinics that specialise in working with international or expatriate clients, as these settings are often familiar with the emotional and cultural challenges of living abroad.
Options may include in-person psychotherapy in Lisbon, online therapy for those who travel or live outside the city, and practices offering individual or couples therapy. When exploring options, expats may wish to consider professional qualifications, ethical frameworks, and whether the clinic provides a stable and supervised therapeutic environment.

Expats in Portugal can find trauma-informed psychotherapy in English through specialised psychotherapy clinics, private practitioners, and online therapy services that work with international clients. Trauma-informed psychotherapy focuses on safety, pacing, and emotional regulation, and is particularly relevant for individuals with histories of trauma, loss, or significant life transitions.
When looking for trauma-informed support, it can be helpful to seek practitioners who describe their work as trauma-informed or relational, and who work within recognised professional and ethical frameworks. Many expats also value clinics that offer continuity through online sessions when relocation or travel is part of their lifestyle.
